defeat、win和beat用法剖析

1.defeat是及物動詞，意為“擊敗，克服”，后接的賓語為擊敗的目標(biāo)。作名詞時，defeat意為“擊敗，克服”，也可作“敗北，失敗”解。主要表達(dá)在戰(zhàn)場上打敗仇人，重申歷程和后果。如：

His guerrillas defeated the colonial army in 1954.

他的游擊隊在1954年打敗了殖民軍。

The Americans defeated the British in 1781.

美國在1781年打敗了英國。

They defeated the enemy in the battle. 他們在戰(zhàn)役中擊敗了仇人。

battle/bet/race/match/prize/ fame（在戰(zhàn)役、賭博、競走、比賽中得勝,得獎，成名），win an argument/election（在一場爭辯、推舉中贏獲成功），win a fine victory/many awards and medals（博得一場光輝的成功/很多獎品和獎牌）。作不及物動詞意為“得勝”：
